Hi Kathryn, it will be no problem for your use, if you can leave them to dry outside the house , I.E. shed or garage, for a couple of days, they will be fully dry and smell free. Takes a little bit longer to fully dry in cold weather, but a great product.

250 ml of varnish will cover an area of about 3 square metres, or one square metre if the recommended three coats are applied. What is the surface area of the bed?

I would assume that as you can wash the brushes in water then the varnish is water based.
