Q: Is the holding unit plugged in to a socket and attached to the wall next to it, or does it have to be hard wired into the mains?

Its plugged into an adjacent so thats easy. If you're mounting it on to a plaster board wall take your time getting some suitable butterfly screws, you will probably have to drill two 10 - 12mm holes and if you have to take the screws out you'll lose the butterflies in the cavity. Other than that follow Dyson's instructions and you will be fine.

Your Dyson V8 is a hoover not a shovel. I would never dream of trying to get mud off mats and would use a hard brush first. If rayburn dust clogs filters it is answering for itself. Maybe you need to consider moving house - I have lived on a farm so know what it is like. Seriously the Dyson V8 is a great tool but for ordinary cleaning. Invest in some scrapers at the door and insist on muddy boots being removed before people come in. Best of luck.

Hello,I find, especially with the smaller head on, that it sucks up dog hairs fabulously. The container fills up quite quickly, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it sucked up, particularly on carpet or material. I think I might need to buy the hard floor head for the laminate/tiles, it's not so good with that. But for dog hairs from carpet, or soft furniture, it's fine

I just plug into a socket, no need for a docking station. I find the Dyson absolutely fantastic for my small house.
