Home recording

I've been playing around with home recording, having transformed a bedroom into an occasional studio with a range of equipment and some MXL 603 microphones for acoustic guitar and vocal recording. Being a bedroom, it lacks the assured silence and acoustic dampening that would be ideal (having the curtains closed helps!). I looked into commercial microphone shields and acoustic booths but the cost seemed higher than I could justify.Being a fan of a bit of DIY, it struck me that, with some acoustic foam and a simple frame, I could create my own acoustic shield. There are a lot of different foam panels available and some are clearly more professional (and expensive) than others. These seemed very reasonably priced and the 12 inch (300mm) square size gave me a lot of flexibility in how I mounted them. The result? OK, so nobody is going to believe I achieved commercial studio standards but the panels are certainly doing their job. My home made acoustic booth, in combination with microphone shock mountings for ground isolation, is providing a very adequate shield and definitely improves the overall acoustic performance. Not bad for the price of the panels and a few wooden straps, hinges, screws and spray glue for mounting. I reckon it saved me at least £100 over any similar, commercially produced product.

Great value!

I purchased these tiles because it was the next step in creating an amateur studio. As music making is more of a hobby than anything else, I knew that I did not want to spend a huge amount of money. Also, I had a very limited idea on how to acoustically treat a room, so I did not want to buy super expensive tiles incase I got it wrong.I am very pleased with these tiles. I put them on my wall in alternating orientations and they have had a positive effect. Sound now feels punchier and the room echoes less. In all fairness, I don't think these are true acoustic tiles as they aren't very dense and most other places charge many pounds per tile. That being said, these tiles do work well, look the part and you just cannot complain for the price.Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. On a side note, other reviewers have mentioned a very strong chemical smell upon opening the box: I did not experience this. The tiles do not smell at all.

Does exactly as says!

I purchased this product a couple months back but have only recently had the time to add them to our already acoustically treated Studio 1 at our rehearsal rooms. Previously we used Universal Acoustic products which did an exceptional job for a much higher cost, however there was still some residual reflection issues as our rooms are large and high with painted walls.Once we changed the layout of our studio rooms in order to best suit the bands we have in, we required more tiles but it was decided to try something else in order to cut costs (At the time these tiles were on special offer for an amazing price I might add!). Whilst perhaps not quite as durable or as thick as the Universal Acoustic tiles and they appear to be made up of a different type of foam, we were suitably impressed with the performance of the Pro Acoustic tiles in conjunction with the Universal Acoustic ones, despite being an 8th of the cost! Since adding these tiles to the previous treatment, feedback from the bands in our studios has been exceptional and we believe that the Pro Acoustic tiles give more for your money.I have given 4 out of 5 as a couple of the tiles had a bit extra which needed to be cut off and tidied up a bit, which was of no real concern to us and another was ripped whilst being repositioned, as opposed to the Universal Acoustic tiles which have been repositioned a number of times without any damages. My true score would be 4.5 out of 5 however. I hope the manufacturer and any readers do not misinterpret my comments as negativity towards the product, the durability of repositioning and the slight untidiness were minor issues that I would highlight only if pushed to criticise them. Overall the product does a remarkable job and says nothing about repositioning once stuck to the walls, being thinner however meant they were easier to tear and had less area to grasp when trying to remove.I have read one comment claiming that the foam isn't an acoustically treated product which is rubbish. They have done a fantastic job for us and despite being thinner we've found that the different densities between the two has actually worked well with providing a great sounding live room. We are now looking to purchase more Pro Acoustic tiles to go in Studio 2 and are even looking at their bass traps rather than the Universal Acoustic ones going forward!!

Good quality, as described acoustic tiles

If you need acoustic tiles then I would say its worth buying these, they are exactly as described and are well made. When I got mine they had the occasional 1cm by 1cm little gouged bit of foam and there were some extra ridges on the edge of some(Which you could easily pry off), as well as some hanging foam strings which if you peel off strips a very small line of foam off.But none of these effect the quality or function of the tiles and I am just as pleased by them, being foam im sure this is the normal condition for machine cut tiles. My only real problem which might be independent to me and not to do with the product, was the courier or just way that the foam was sent. It was in a 4 by 2 ft box which looked like it had been rolled down a hill into a flooded field, opened and then re-stuck with the same tape. I was worried that tiles would be missing, damaged or damp as the plastic bag holding them inside the box was also opened and pulled back, fortunately none were missing or damaged.
