When I saw this product I had to have it. This is the most amazing thing since hot water as far as I am concerned. I got it the day after I ordered it. After reading all the negative reviews I could find here is how I approached using the product.1) Smokes during first few uses-I turned the knob to 5 and let it perform a burn-in cycle with nothing in it. Instructions say to not operate without at least 1 hotdog and bun. But in my opinion if it can't survive 1 cycle it would need to be returned as POS. Burn-in worked fine and it did smoke like a bingo player at first, then it stopped. Subsequent uses were smoke free with no odor/taste effect on the food.2) Bun burning along edges-Yes it burned the buns along the edge and was heavier from the top of the toaster down. But after a bit of carbon buildup on the inside it no longer burns the bun and I do cook on number 5. The buns need to be regular sized. I also noticed that most buns, I tried 3 brands, are baked/sliced in such a way that one end is more tapered and I place them into the toaster tapered end up.3) Hotdog expands in holder and is hard to get out-Yes it does on fat hotdogs. Also over cooking causes the hotdogs to split as I discovered when working out the best cook setting. Skinny ones like Oscar Mayer or Nathans or Hebrew National have no problem. I tried 6 different brands all beef brands including Ball Park and Bar S and some generic brand. The BallPark were the worst case of the bubch but I got them out without too much carnage. Overall they all cooked great at setting of 5. I prefer my hotdogs either hot or cold but not in between.4) Cheaply made with plastic-It was only $20. However the plastic housing makes it cool to the touch. Key points are it works very well and is easy to clean up.In conclusion, I think my organs are failing from all the hotdogs I've eaten the last couple of weeks. Everyone who sees the toaster has a big inner child smile moment and has to try it. It works as advertised. It's inexpensive and its color matches my coffee maker.

Everyone liked the concept of a Hot Dog & Toasted Bun machine, but most thought it would fail to measure up in both performance and taste. That is, until the first test of this contraption was initiated. Turns out, the Hot Dogs proved to be very tasty and well done at the 3/4 setting. The Hot Dog buns did toast OK, albeit a little burnt around the edges. The one complaint proved to be the removal of the Hot Dog bun from the channel in which it sits while being toasted. The channel is too tight for a standard bun, much less any kind of oversize one. The bun tends to stick in the channel and tends to tear as one tries to remove it with the provided tongs. If the opening was wider allowing for easier removal, I would have given this 5 stars.

I’ve seen these for a while and ordered it and had it in a couple days. When my wife saw I ordered it, I got the raised eyebrow. This is like most anything, a guessing game for the first time, however I put it on 3 1/2. The hotdog was very good and the bun was great and a winner with my wife. The next time I’ll put it on 4 for cooking to see what it does. Like I said first time is a learning experience but very easy. I think it’s absolutely worth the money and very close to a hotdog at the ballpark. I’d buy it again

Not sure why my husband bought this. Would be great as a white elephant gift. It’s very attractive - just as pictured. But it’s not a hotdog cooker. Rather, it’s a toaster which identifies as a hotdog cooker… hence the reason it would make a great (albeit pricy) gag gift.The top has been modified with circles and half circles. The circles fit a standard hotdog (not the plumping ones). The half circles were too small to hold the regular (relatively small) buns. We had to jam the buns in (partially open). Besides the facelift on the top and the modified toasting slots, the rest is just a standard toaster: heating elements dividing the inside (buns are toasted on one side and hotdogs on two sides), with two drip trays (not just toast crumbs - the juices from the hotdogs end up on the heating elements and in the drip trays). Not practical for cleaning, and then the heating elements stink on further use.The buns were smashed, toasted and VERY dry. Nothing like a nicely steamed bun. The hotdogs were burnt on the two sides facing the heating elements, but still cold inside. Not very appetizing (yuck!).Again… this is great for a White Elephant gift exchange… or if you have to buy a gift for someone you don’t like and need it to look like a nice gift at first. ;-P
