This gate looks really nice & is easy to mount but it's not really durable for heavy use. We had it for 9 months and one of the welds at the bottom of a vertical bar broke. We've had the bottom hinge pop off a couple times & were able to pop in back in place but at the 10 month mark, the bottom hinge broke off completely, rendering the gate useless. We installed this gate between the main entry hall & kitchen to separate foster dogs at mealtimes so it received daily use in those 10 months. I think this gate would work better in a less active area of your house or as a temporary use item for visiting dogs/children.

Attractive, functional, and easy to use

The spacing of the bars and height of this gate successfully keep my medium sized cat from uninvitedly joining my video calls. It fits my 30" doorway perfectly and I love that it does not damage the woodwork. When not is use, it swings the full 90 degrees to the open position and stays there. I mistakenly thought I was missing a part required for installation and the seller responded within a couple of hours and sent a replacement without question then told me to keep it once I alerted them I didn't need it after all - great customer service. If there is any room for improvement it would be that the gate does not really require its lock/unlock mechanism. The gate has a small foot stop that keeps the bottom of the gate secure when closed. When the gate is raised slightly to clear the stop upon opening/closing, the locking mechanism clears as well. Although the mechanism doesn't detract from the function or appearance of the gate; it's simply not necessary for use. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and the promptness and friendliness of the seller was a bonus.

Despite that cats fit through this (even really fat cats), this is good for me.

Obviously, it's not meant for cats. It clearly says: "Corral large pets", and despite that our one cat is a total meat loaf, I don't think he falls in the "large pet" category (no matter how much one hopes for the purpose of this gate). Still, under normal circumstances (i.e., no cat-freaks going on), this gate did hold them back quite successfully. Until, of course, that time when someone they didn't recognize through the sliding glass doors started tapping on it, and both decided Einstein's theory on light speed stopping time is sheer nonsense. They moved at the speed of light and took time (albeit brief) doing it. Though they both got a little stuck at the hips (one stuck a bit longer than the other, namely, our meat loaf), getting through was not a matter in question, but...you know...cats.HOWEVER. I like this thing because they don't attempt to squeeze in the room (only out and only under duress) when I don't want them to. So, SCORE. And when we get that dog I'm planning, it will work even better!P.S. It's sturdier than most of the gates I've had to date (NOT sturdy enough to sit and swing on, so just...don't, it wasn't meant for that), and it functions as a proper door too (easy open and close), which is a bonus.P.P.S. I am rating 4 stars, only because I have decided to stop rating 5. No one reads 5 anymore, since 5 is, sadly, way too often bogus seller-paid or -fluffing reviews. Otherwise, I would say this is a 5, FOR US (and our needs, anyway). I guess it all depends on what you expect?

Great product, but DON'T plan to use it for cats or other smaller animals.

Sturdy, well made product, easy to assemble. HOWEVER, the spacing between spindles/supports won't prevent many smaller animals from getting through the bars. (Not a flaw of the product itself, obviously.) We have a 12-pound cat who can get through with almost no effort. Our smaller cat sees it as a fun toy, but certainly not as a barrier. And depending on the size of your doorway opening, the space on either side can be quite a bit larger than the fixed width between the bars on the gate itself. I tried to make it work by threading screen material through the bars, reinforcing that with cardboard, etc. Naturally, after much work on my part, my cat gave me The Look and jumped over it with ease. (Cats being cats.)To make it work for smaller animals, you'll need to be far more ingenious than I was able to be and modify it in two ways: 1) by creating a pretty solid, firmly attached barrier at both sides to block the space from the gate's fixed sides to the doorframe, and then 2) figure our how to block the spaces between spindles on the gate itself. Doing that is complicated by the fact that there's no bar/spindle at the outer edge of the gate's door itself, i.e., nothing that allows you to attach a screen or whatever to both edges of the gate door. You'll either have a gap beyond the spindle on the side where the gate opens, or you'll have to figure out how to block that opening solidly but without losing the ability to open the gate for access. This is a quality product for the right use; I'd expect it to prove more than adequate for a larger pet or a child. If you're looking to use it with cats who aren't arthritic and/or obese, I suggest you look elsewhere or involve a patient handy person who's VERY good at problem solving.

Good product, still not tall enough for cat though

Gate itself was very good, very sturdy, worked well, but just simply not tall enough for an active kitten. That's not the fault of the product, of course. I would still highly recommend this for dog owners or people with cats that don't jump as high as mine.
