Q: How do I put this in the ground with a "u" shaped drive way from grass to rocks. Do you think this will work for cutting the grass without the rocks?

To form a “U” shape you need to stake it at short distances along the arc. After it sets for a few days, some stakes can be removed. Using it as a mow strip wont work even if you set it at the grass cutting height of your mower. Any low spot on either side will dip the wheels and the blades which will cut the edging. A string trimmer is the best way to cut grass with this edge. Also the edging expands in hot weather causing it to buckle.

Q: Is the top rail 1”. It needs to have a 1” opening on top to match my existing edging.

No, it's probably 5/8" but I would just stick a small wood dowel into your existing edging if you need to join the new with the old stuff and go with it. Nobody will notice the top of one being a little bigger unless they are prostrate on the ground measuring it . LOL

Q: How thick is the plastic?

approx. 1/8 of an inch thin enough to make fairly tight bends. you need to install in the ground to the top curl . it does not do well when up above the ground level and involved with the lawn mower

Yes, it is easy to cut and very pliable to fit where you need it to go.
