I was just about to give up trying to grow sunflower microgreens. I had bought three different packages of seeds from three different merchants, including two highly recommended by seemingly every microgreen grower online, and the best rate of germination I got was about 50 percent. It must be the temperature, I thought, so I bought a seedling mat. Nope. The pH of my water must be too high, I thought, so I bought a pH tester and a couple of lemons. Finally I watched a YouTube video that claimed sunflower seeds are extremely variable, and even great seed companies get an occasional bad lot. "Well then why do they advertise an 85 percent germination rate?" I grumbled, cheesed off at all of the money I had wasted. A sensible person would stop trying at this point, but I thought I'd spin the wheel one last time before giving up. I chose Country Creek Acre seeds, believe it or not, because the packaging wasn't snazzy, and I had never heard of the company, so maybe they didn't spend a lot of money paying designers and marketers and online influencers. Maybe they just sold good seeds.They did; in fact, they sell AMAZING seeds. Words can't describe the beauty of my first successful crop, so just look at the picture and know that, if you've been struggling to grow sunnies when you have no trouble growing other microgreens, it's probably your seeds.
