Must-Have for your library: Fun, Excellent, Unique
This album is one of my all-time recent favorites! I've been listening to it through streaming services, but I needed to own a physical copy. This is the most unique, varied, and fun albums I have heard - in terms of emotion, instruments, and interpretation/style. So many emotions are present -- the white-hot passion one would expect from a tango; slow, contemplative moments that invoke thought and reflection; and energetic pieces that literally make me smile whenever I hear them.Despite being a quartet, Quadro Nuevo uses over 25 different instruments throughout their works. The result is a variety of sounds and some truly exceptional combinations. I personally found myself stopping my other activities just so I could listen to some of the instruments and combinations being used.As far as interpretation and style, there is so much here it's hard to describe. The pieces range from sounding improvised to bordering on traditional forms; the style of a tango blends into jazz-like moments. My personal musical experience (mostly classical vocal and symphonic works) limits me from providing a more informed stylistic description. The CD comes in a paper/cardstock package (it's not hard plastic), with a booklet tucked neatly into the front sleeve. I appreciate the way they included a removable booklet. It is in English and French, and includes notes about Quadro Nuevo, the CD itself, as well as short "concert notes" for each piece. The notes for each piece varies -- some are simply (gorgeous) poems, other notes speak to the origin of the dance itself, while some give homage to a composer or notable musician. With such variety, there's something for everyone in this CD.

Masters of Modern Tango
I am not an expert in Tango, or in music specifically, but when I want to feel like I'm drinking fine espresso on a cobblestone Parisian alley, (when I'm drinking burnt office coffee in a white-washed cinder block office), I go to Quadro Nuevo. Tango Bitter Sweet doesn't disappoint.
